For Bengalis abroad

Bangla is spoken in many countries. Work from all of them belongs here.

Why it matters

  • A model trained on one country’s Bangla does not hear the rest. Speech, spelling and vocabulary differ across Bangladesh, West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, and every place Bengalis have settled.
  • Data gathered abroad — recordings, handwriting, translations, code-switched text — fills gaps nobody in one city can fill.
  • Time and skills count as much as data: reviewing, labelling, writing a guide in Bangla, answering a question in the community.

Ways to take part

  • Publish a dataset or a model under an open licence, from wherever you are.
  • Answer a dataset request: somebody has asked for exactly the data you may already have.
  • Write in Bangla about what you do — a guide here is read by people who have no other route in.
  • Set or enter a benchmark, so claims about Bangla can be checked by anyone.

Practical things

  • The platform is in Bangla and English; use either.
  • An account is free, and open work costs nothing to publish or to take.
  • If your institution abroad wants a space of its own, register it like any other organization, or write to support@pothikrit.org.
